David Stirling and Miguel Novillo Astrada, ten-goalers again

Handicap changes announced for next season; Aguerre and Nachi Heguy among those with handicap reductions

The Asociación Argentina de Polo this Tuesday (December 17th) announced its handicap changes for next year.

The two outstanding handicap raises are those corresponding to players who have recovered their ten-goal handicaps. One of them is Uruguay’s David Stirling, who won the 2013 Triple Crown series as a member of the all-conquering La Dolfina foursome, which means it will return to being a 40-goal team next year. The other player to be raised to 10 goals has come as a bit of a surprise, this is the case of Miguel Novillo Astrada.

There are three players whose handicaps have been raised from 8 to 9 goals, all of them very much expected changes: Pablo Pieres, who has been this year’s revelation, and Frederick Mannix, both of them team-mates in one of Palermo finalists, the Alegría team. The remaining player to be raised to a 9-handicap one is Ignacio Toccalino. It was expected that one of the Magual team’s players would have a raise in his handicap, with Toccalino and Alejandro Muzzio being the on the list.

Ignatius du Plessis and Guillermo Terrera, team-mates in the La Aguada team as replacements of Ignacio and Javier Novillo Astrada, together with Diego Cavanagh, are the three players whose handicaps were raised from 7 to 8.

In what refers to handicap reductions, Mariano Aguerre has returned to being a 9-goal player, while the handicaps of 9-goalers Ignacio Heguy, Marcos Heguy and Julio Arellano, have been reduced to 8. Alejandro Díaz Alberdi, Juan Agustín García Grossi and Mariano González, have lost one goal in their respective handicaps and now are 7-goal players.

In what refers to prior commentaries regarding the handicap changes, no player of the Chapaleufú team managed to have his handicap raised, although it was thought that Eduardo and Alberto Heguy would have theirs raised. The handicap of Facundo Sola, who was among those who stood out among the La Aguada players, has not been changed either.

As mentioned above, La Dolfina will once again be a 40-goal foursome in 2014, while Ellerstina will be a 38-goal team. Alegría will be the third highest team with a total of 36 goals, together with La Aguada, which has already confirmed its line-up for next year: Facundo Sola, Guillermo Caset, together with Miguel and Ignacio Novillo Astrada.

La Aguada Las Monjitas continues to be a 33-goal team, with Magual also reaching that figure. There are doubts surrounding La Natividad. This team has confirmed Lolo Castagnola (9), Nachi Heguy (8) and Rodrigo Ribeiro de Andrade (8) for next year, with the probable fourth member being Guillermo Terrera, who as an 8-goal player would lead to this team also being a 33-goal one.

Here is the list of 229 handicap raises and 98 reductions which have been lowered:
