British Polo Day at Saint-Tropez

On June 9th, two home teams will face Eton and Oxford

Two elite British polo teams will go head to head against two local teams at the Polo Club Saint-Tropez in the first British Polo Day to take place in France on Saturday, 9th June 2012.

Although the ancient sport of polo began in Persia and China many centuries ago, the British reinvented the modern game in the nineteenth century. Sir Winston Churchill, one of the greatest proponents of the game, once famously said "a polo handicap is a passport to the world" and polo is still thriving everywhere it is played, from Argentina to New Zealand. British Polo Day carries on the tradition of the British playing polo against friends in a host of different countries. British Polo Day Saint-Tropez marries this heritage with the French flair for style. This partnership is embodied in Vicomte A, the exclusive fashion label that is set to open its first King's Road London store this summer, and a key sponsor of the event.

Polo still flourishes among Britain's oldest institutions, where old rivalries often produce the most fiercely fought matches, be it Eton v Harrow or Oxford v Cambridge. These institutions have produced some of Britain’s finest polo players over the years and British Polo Day provides a platform for these players to continue to play globally.

200 VIPs will gather for a Taittinger champagne reception to watch Eton and Oxford battle it out against two teams from the Polo Club Saint-Tropez. After a VIP lunch, a charity auction will be held in aid of HRH Princes Charles' Charities, followed by a star-studded afterparty. The party continues the following day with an exclusive Players' Party at the glamorous Nikki Beach Club.
