"Nacho" Figueras: "It's really cool to play at a place like the O2"

Argentine model and polo player set to take part in the HPA Gaucho International Polo, in London

Ignacio Figueras

On Wednesday March 21st, London's O2 Arena will play host to a new edition of the HPA Gaucho International Polo event.

The outstanding figure of the event will be Argentina's Ignacio "Nacho" Figueras, who will represent his country in the match against England, while Scotland will be facing Ireland in the remaining match.

LivingPolo spoke with Figueras, who mentioned that "I'm enthused about this year's improvements” in the event, and he hopes that the "spectatorship will be plenty".

"It's really cool to play at such an important place like the O2. It's also good to put polo in perspective and to bring the world's best spectacle to the people", said the Argentinian player.

"Nacho" began playing polo in his homeland when he was nine years old, beginning what would be a successful polo career. "The horses are my real passion, and I really enjoy riding. I love playing".

The Figueras surname is also acknowledged in two environments: polo and modeling. However, he admits that "being a polo player is the main thing: my work with Ralph Lauren is a complement and they respect my profession as a polo player; I think I'm more acknowledged as a polo player than as a model".

Referring to his presence nowadays in the sport, Ignacio Figueras said that in 2012 "I'll be playing mainly in Brazil, in the Hamptons and in Argentina".
